What did a girl end up doing?
By Future Mrs. Jones | August 26, 2008
I am sure you were all wondering what I decided to do about the charity wedding dress sale….Well, I actually made it to the sale and was able to do everything else I was scheduled to do!!! It took some maneuvering and speeding on my part but I am so glad that I went. Otherwise, I would have spent the entire weekend thinking that I’d missed something.
Now, I bet you’re wondering if I actually saw something that I loved and did I buy it….Sadly, the answer is a resounding NO!! As I walked in to the event space and instantly knew that I would not be finding a dress that I loved. Despite my misgivings as I continued toward my size rack I tried to give myself a little pep talk and keep an open mind. It didn’t really work. I moved really quickly through the rack and decided to leave after about 15 minutes.
I think that one of my big mistakes was going to that trunk show a couple of weeks ago….
And so the hunt for the perfect dress continues.

What’s a girl to do????
By Future Mrs. Jones | August 20, 2008
What’s a girl to do???? I just learned about a wedding gown sale on Friday and Saturday that will benefit Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation, the dilemma? I have a ton of stuff to do on both days and I just have no idea how to make it all work.
I have to work until 12:30 on Friday; then a quick appointment at 1p that will probably not take more than 30 minutes; so I should be free around 2 and my next appointment is at 5–mani/pedi time. It might sound like I have a nice little break and could possibly go then but the sale is about 30 miles from my nail shop.
On Saturday, my employer is having a company picnic at an Six Flags–I was on the planning committee so I kind of need to make an appearance. I am scheduled to be there at 11:30. I don’t live near the amusement park and it is not close the the sale either….The sale is over at 4pm.
What the heck am I going to do??? I think they are going to have over a 1,000 styles with prices ranging from $99-799!!!! The dresses have been donated by designers, manufactures, retailers, and brides.
If anyone has any suggestions to my time dilemma, I’d love to hear it.

My first trunk show
By Future Mrs. Jones | August 18, 2008
A few weeks ago I mentioned that I’d found a dress that I really liked on Once Wed by a designer that I’d never heard of. I was so into this dress and learning more about the designer, I googled, I looked at everything I could find and was more convinced than ever that this was a designer that I wanted to see more of.
This past weekend I got my opportunity. A local bridal boutique had a trunk show showcasing the designer’s gowns. Needless to say, I was thrilled! Originally I’d planned to go alone but the day before I asked my girlfriend Ms. Andrews to go with me.
Of course I had no idea what to expect but going in I wanted to make sure that I felt like I looked good. I made sure that my hair looked nice, I put on make up and wore good jewelry. I also had print outs of the dresses that I wanted to see. I had my camera and a note pad to capture all the pertinent information; I was all set.
I tried on several dresses and ended up with four that I really liked. Honestly, I think that I could be happy with either of them. The issue, because you knew there had to be one, is the cost!!!! I did all this darn research and neglected to look at the designer’s price range! Crazy, right?!!!
I have know idea what our budget is going to be but some how I just think that these dresses that I found and loved are going to be beyond what I want to spend once we get the budget together. So, I’m afraid that I broke one of Budget Savvy Bride’s cardinal rules: trying on dresses that are out of your price range!
I’m not sure what the next step for me is but I will say that I really want one of those dresses! I guess Mr. Jones and I will have to really figure out the budget and start planning and I will have to do more research and who knows may I’ll get looking and find one of the dresses in my size (or larger) on Once Wed.
Has that happened to anyone out there? Have you found a dress that you love that was just out of your price range? What did you do? How did you move past it and open yourself to other dresses?

“Your Personal Wedding Planner”
By Future Mrs. Jones | August 11, 2008
I am not sure if it will surprise you or not that despite the fact that Mr. Jones and I haven’t “officially” started planning or set a date, I have started looking a wedding planner workbooks and tools to help keep me organized.
When Colorado’s premiere wedding planner, Jo Anna Zaffree of ASI Weddings & Events learned that I was engaged she was kind enough to send me a copy of her personal guide book “Your Personal Wedding Planner” (YPWP)
for creating my dream wedding. And because I have no earthly idea what my dream wedding looks like I was thrilled to open the binder and take a look.
When I looked at Jo Anna’s pink wedding workbook the thing that stood out to me is the simplicity and user-friendly language. It’s not over complicated and breaks everything down for the happy couple–more likely the bride, who’ll doing most of the planning.
YPWP has a dozen sections ranging from everything from budget, attire, photographer to honeymoon. The first thing that you will see at the beginning of almost every section are the all important “money saving tips.” This is my favorite thing about YPWP!!! All the money saving tips. No matter what the budget or how much money you have–everyone likes to get a deal (or at least feel like the got a good deal!) Thanks for sharing the “Industry Insider Secrets!”
Jo Anna will be a special guest on The Wedding Planning Audiocast in the next couple of weeks, please check the listings and don’t miss this rising star, I know I’ll be tuning in to learn more of her insider secrets.
Thanks Jo Anna!

Hit the hills….
By Future Mrs. Jones | August 10, 2008
I cannot even believe I am about to write this but here goes.
I think that I’ve mentioned that since my engagement my workouts have taken on a new meaning–essentially I am waging a full on war on fat!!!! You can imagine Mr. Jones’s elation about my battle.
Anyway, the other day when I was at Starbucks I noticed all of the information about The Nike+ Human Race 10K. Well, I was curious so I picked up a flyer and the point that really resonated with me is below:
9. Hit the hills. Pushing your body weight up a hill is like lifting weights as you run, making you even stronger on the flats.
I don’t know very many people that really like doing hills but I will say that after reading Nike’s tip, it made it a little easier to get my butt up the hill at bootcamp on Saturday morning. (Perhaps easier is an overstatement but it made the idea of doing them a little more palatable.) The drill sergeant loves that damned hill! I just hope she misses this post and doesn’t make us do anymore that she normally does.
I am going to have to think of a new slogan about hills for SheRuns. If anybody has any suggestions we’re open….

Where to start…
By Future Mrs. Jones | August 4, 2008
As most of you know we haven’t started planning “the BIG day” yet despite how much I actually spend thinking about it, we just haven’t managed to commit to a plan yet. People keep saying “don’t stress about it,” I’m not stressed, I’m just acknowledging the fact that we haven’t set a date or come up with a plan….I love the noise from the crowd! I especially love it from strangers.
Anyway, being the research whore that I am, I put a query out to professionals/experts, asking for advice about where to start when planning a wedding–what is the first thing that I should do…I also asked for tips to keep me on track and any organizational sanity savers that are key for brides. Well, I got a ton of great advice from top wedding planners and I thought I would share them in the coming weeks
Melissa Barrad of San Diego based I Do…Weddings! offers this piece of advice to all of her brides as step one:
-Budget is king.
Regardless of where your budget stands, it is absolutely imperative to have a conversation with any contributors early in the process about budget, contributions and expectations. While some parents feel comfortable with giving their children a round amount to spend as they wish, others assist with costs in certain areas, and also want to be involved in the decision process. This may be an uncomfortable discussion to have, but doing so will ensure everyone is on the same page.
Starting with the budget makes total sense to me because it really dictates everything else about the wedding.
Melissa will be featured on WeTV newest wedding show, “The Wedding Planners.” I will certainly be tuning in to watch, what bride can resist all the wedding shows on WeTV?????

Weddiquette dilemma
By Future Mrs. Jones | July 31, 2008
I need a little help with etiquette….Picture this:
It’s late afternoon I’ve finished work for the day and I decide to treat myself to an iced tea from Peet’s. (It is important to note that I haven’t had an iced tea all week! This is some sort of record that can’t go with just a casual mention.) Okay, back to the dilemma, I am sitting at Peet’s on Piedmont flipping through a magazine, I know, I know–big surprise, right? A woman comes over and asks what magazine I’m reading, she says “Is it the new Vogue?”
I look up and say, “No.”
She looks at me expectantly so I shyly say “It’s Martha Stewart Weddings.”
She says, “Ohhhhh, congratulations! You’re getting married.”
The lady then looks at my ring and gives several complements, then calls her mother over to tell her that I am getting married. Remember, I don’t know these women. The mom comes over and says (just like her daughter) “Ohhhhh, congratulations!”
Just like her daughter, she looks at my ring and gives several complements. Unlike her daughter, she proceeds to ask me “How many carats is your center stone?”
I am thrown so far off balance by the boldness of her question, the only thing I can do is mumble the answer to her question.
We chatted for a few more minutes but I sat there feeling like someone had just asked me my annual salary, how much I weighed, my age?????
Am I crazy or is this one of those taboo questions? All you weddiquette gurus please weigh in.
